My adulting is done for the day, I’m back from the gym, and my partner is still at work—so even though it’s still early Tuesday afternoon, I’m over here solo queueing Quick Match in Marvel Rivals with my Season 2 main, Storm. Watch the skies. There’s a hurricane incoming—and it’s me.
If you’ve watched the ‘90s X-Men cartoon, you’ll remember Storm occasionally dropping from the sky like a ragdoll when things went sideways. Yeah, that was me for the first couple matches. But every workout needs a warm-up, right? So I rolled with the punches—literal ones from Iron Fist that pummeled me into a different Multiverse.
Match three, though?
The goddess herself had arrived. And all would feel her wrath.
The map was Klyntar: Symbiotic Surface. This is a Convergence map, a combination of Domination and Convoy. Our mission was to capture the convoy first and escort it to the other end of the map to win before time runs out. Easy to understand. Harder to execute. Especially when you never know who’s going to be beside you… or against you. And I don’t just mean the characters. I mean the players. Because when the matchmaking gods smile on you, and you get a solid squad? You really feel like the $%&@&#% Avengers.
Thankfully, today was one of those days.
Doctor Strange had his shields up. Sue’s force fields healed me. Magik leapt out of Limbo swinging her Soul Sword around like she had a vendetta. Dagger was throwing healing knives while Cloak whisked us away into the Darkforce Dimension just in the knick of time. Captain America arrived just when we needed him, leaping into the fray with his shield.
And me?
I went full Omega-level mutant.
I got that charged lightning bolt in just the right spot to finish them off; I threw my arms out in the middle of the chaos and shouted a battlecry as I electrified every enemy in sight. I became a living hurricane, slicing through the enemy’s backline with Category 5 winds. You know that rare match where everything just clicks? This was that.
Another epic victory!
MVP went to Cloak and Dagger, but I walked away with a Relentless Assault, a Penta kill streak, 36 kills, and 42 assists.
Getting to bulldoze through another team as the literal goddess of the weather?
It’s just plain, powerful fun.
